#PoliticoCD. | DRC-Zambia: Félix Tshisekedi and Hakainde Hichilema discuss the settlement of border disputes in Tanganyika

The Congolese President and President of the African Union, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and his counterpart from the Republic of Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema discussed this Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Palace of the Nation.

According to the Congolese presidential press, the time was right for the two Heads of State to take a full overview, during their discussions, of issues of common interest.

Speaking to the press at the end of their tête-à-tête, the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, suggested that “the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the settlement of the border dispute in level of the province of Tanganyika was on the menu of discussions ”.

To this end, the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi indicated that the work of the joint commission bringing together experts from two countries will be launched shortly on the spot, at a date to be agreed upon, in order to boost the quest for a lasting solution to this border dispute.

Economic issues were also at the center of the discussions with a strong emphasis on the situation of the Kasumbalesa border post, always underlines the Congolese presidential press, which, according to it, suffers from a lack of infrastructure and an efficient common organization at the based.

Beyond that, said the President of the DRC, it was reaffirmed the need to pool energies and resources for the construction of infrastructure, bridges, roads, etc., for the good of the Congolese and Zambian peoples.

Speaking in turn, President Hakainde Hichelema, hammered on the commitment made by the two parties to resolve their border dispute that his regime has inherited. He said he was determined to put an end to this definitively so that attention would now be focused on trade and investment between the two countries.

President Hakainde Hichelema also indicated that it was imperative for him to come to the DRC, the first destination after taking power, because of the very strong cultural ties uniting the two countries, and above all, of the African stature of Félix Tshisekedi from whom he came to take advice. He also pleaded for the growth of the economies of two countries, so as to generate employment opportunities for the benefit of young people and women.

It should be noted that this meeting took place on the eve of the holding in Kinshasa, of the Business Forum during which the two countries will, through their experts, reflect on mutually advantageous strategies to be put in place for management and efficient use of precious materials.

President Hakainde Hichilema (59) won the presidential election in Zambia with over 2.8 million votes. His swearing-in took place in the presence of more than 60,000 people gathered at the stadium of national heroes of Lusaka in the presence of the President of the African Union, Félix Tshisekedi, concludes the dispatch of the Congolese presidential press.
