Struggling with Félix Tshisekedi, Moïse Katumbi is planning a tour of the United States. In an exclusive document consulted by POLITICO.CD, a lobbying firm is taking steps with the American authorities in particular to prepare for this tour which should take place from 1is as of November 19, 2021. The message is written by an aide to Ed Royce, former chairman of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. The latter now represents the firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, which works for Moïse Katumbi.

« I am writing to you on behalf of Mr. Katumbi – he recently submitted his visa application for a B1 / B2 to travel to the United States on the dates November 1–19, as he has urgent meetings in Washington DC. We, along with colleagues from King and Spalding, have secured meetings for him with members on the Hill and are working on meetings with the administration, including the NSC, the State, the Department of Defense and a few other agencies. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss recent issues in the DRC surrounding violence against the church and the threat to democracy. Explains Samantha A. Carl-Yoder, who introduces herself as an Ed Royce collaborator in the same message.

The message in question is strangely intended for a senior official at the United States Embassy in Zambia. ” I spoke with Consular Affairs and EB, who told me the best procedure was to get a visa appointment and then work with the Post to speed it up. Mr Katumbi resides in Zambia and can arrange a meeting any time your embassy can provide, except Monday 25 October »Says the author.

Ed Royce headed the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee for several years. He has, several times, made outings denouncing the power of Joseph Kabila, then struggling with Moïse Katumbi. In January 2019, he openly castigated the elections that led to the victory of President Félix Tshisekedi. ” The results of the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have still not been announced, but American officials are already denouncing a poll that was neither fair nor democratic“, He had said.

During this tour, still explains this e-mail message, Moïse Katumbi had planned to also work with the US government on issues related to critical minerals and supply chains in the DRC and the region. ” Mr. Katumbi will also travel to New York for meetings with the private sector, as well as with United Nations officials. As a former leader of the DRC and trusted by Congress and members of the Administration, his participation in these meetings is vital to advancing US national security interests in Africa, ”says his lobbyist .
