Indictment against Trump will be sent to the Senate on Monday ~ #AFP:

The head of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, “informed him that the indictment would be sent to the Senate on Monday,” he said in the hemicycle.

This step, which involves the reading before the senators of articles of “impeachment” targeting the former president, will mark the formal opening of his second trial in the framework of the infamous impeachment procedure.

The substantive discussions could wait, however, and no date has yet been communicated.

Chuck Schumer just said he discussed with Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “the timing and duration” of the hearings. “But make no mistake, there will be a trial in the United States Senate and a vote on the president’s guilt,” he said.

Succeeding him on the podium, Mitch McConnell regretted the pace. “The impeachment by the House has been faster and more minimalist than ever, the next step cannot be an insufficient trial in the Senate,” he said.

“We need a full and fair trial, during which the former president can defend himself and the Senate can consider all factual, legal and constitutional questions,” he continued, suggesting to wait until mid-February. to start the discussions.

The Republican billionaire is accused of having encouraged his supporters to launch an assault on the Capitol on January 6, when the elected representatives of Congress certified the victory of Joe Biden in the presidential election.
